Coulee Region Winter Blend

The Coulee Region Blend is our seasonal blend.  We change it three times throughout the year so it will provide exactly what the birds need that particular season.  Our Winter Blend is full of nuts, sunflower hearts, suet snacks, and some dried cranberries and cherries, as well as other seeds.  It's sure to provide all the bird families with all the nutrition they need to make it through fall and winter here in the Coulee Region.

WBU Finch Blend

Our Finch Blend is a combination of fine sunflower hearts, Nyjer, and a little bit of white millet.  We have found that this blend will attract the largest variety of finches (Indigo Buntings love the white millet) along with other species such as chickadees, Downy woodpeckers, and nuthatches.  This blend is served best in a finch feeder, try the WBU Quick-clean Finch Feeder.

Safflower

Safflower can be a saving grace for some backyard birders.  Why?  Simple, squirrels and blackbirds (grackles, starlings, etc.) tend not to like it because of its bitter taste.  The birds that tend to frequent safflower are Cardinals, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, House Finches, Nuthatches, Chickadees and others.  This can be fed in any seed feeder, although we recommend the hanging tray.

Nyjer (Thistle)

Nyjer is thought of mainly when feeding the finch family.  We recommend serving it in a finch feeder, our WBU Mesh Finch Feeder is a great one.  The Nyjer is picked right out of the feeder and cracked open (yes this is in a shell).  Squirrels and other birds tend not to like the Nyjer so this is also a good one if Finches are all you are after!

Sunflower Chips

Sunflower chips attract a large variety of birds.  Most seed eating birds prefer oil sunflower and what better way to attract them than to offer their favorite without the hassle of having to crack it open.  Your birds will love you for this one!  Coarse chips are best served in a seed tube, fine chips are best in a finch feeder.  We DEFINATELY recommend using Feeder Fresh with this food, it will help to absorb moisture in the feeder so the seed does not go bad,

Peanut Pick-outs

White Millet

Not to be confused with RED Millet which is used as a filler seed, white millet is actually the SECOND most prefered seed among seed eating birds.  It is mainly eaten by ground feeding birds and is a staple in our house during spring migration.  It will attract the different varieties of Sparrow, Mourning Dove, and even the Indigo Buntings!

Cracked Corn

This is mainly thought of as a ground seed, use in combination with any of our Ground or Hanging tray feeders.  You will attract mostly different Sparrow varieties, Mourning Dove, Blue Jays and, of course, squirrels.  Other birds are attracted as well, I have seen several Cardinals at cracked corn in the dead of winter.
